About Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is the balancing of qi by inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body. This supports and encourages the body's own self-healing and regulatory functions.
The needles may be removed immediately or left in place for 20 to 40 minutes. The needles usually produce a dull sensation on insertion. However this is followed by a pleasant relaxed feeling. Other techniques such as cupping or moxibustion may be used. This involves placing a glass jar (under vacuum) over parts of the body such as the shoulders, back, hips and legs or a warming herb over selected acupuncture points.
Acupuncture is one of the most accepted oriental therapies here in the West. Professional acupuncturists must complete an accredited minimum three years of training to become members of the British Acupuncture Council, which regulates standards of education, ethics and practice.
The benefits of acupuncture frequently include more than just relief from a particular condition. Many people find that it can lead to increased energy levels, better appetite and sleep, as well as an overall sense of well being.
